Your R.O.I.

A nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, the Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation was created in 1999 through the consolidation of the Wisconsin Sports Authority and the Wisconsin Amateur Sports Corporation. The new WSDC absorbed the properties of both organizations, taking ownership and management of the Badger State Games, the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and certain health and fitness programs.

The original mission of the WSDC was to promote healthy lifestyles and a positive sports culture for the benefit of everyone in Wisconsin. Emphasizing good sportsmanship, competition for all ages and abilities, and the importance of competition for the love of the sport, the Badger State Games fulfill this mission. Health education programs were later developed to encourage Wisconsin's youth to develop positive habits and a lifelong interest in physical activity.

Staffed by an experienced, professional sports management team, the WSDC saw an opportunity to provide a larger economic benefit to Wisconsin by hosting and managint other spectator sporting events that would capture the lucrative and underdeveloped sports tourist niche market. Advancing this second mission, the WSDC attracted and managed the USA Open Volleyball Championships, the U.S. Women's National Hockey vs. UW Women's Hockey tournament and the U.S. WOmen's National Volleyball vs. Brazilian Nationals. In 2002 the Ironman Wisconsin triathlong became a WSDC property.
