Internships

Internships are available with WSDC in the areas of Strategic Partnership, Health Initiatives, Marketing and Communications, and Event Operations.

Time Required:
Internships are available for the Summer, Fall, and Winter Semesters. Starting and ending dates are negotiable. Interns work about 40 hours per week on average, but should also be available to work during the following events if they fall under your internship duration:

Strategic Partnership Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist in the development and maintenance of corporate sponsorship accounts. Assist in writing proposals, contacting potential sponsors and meeting with current corporate contacts. Update and organize the corporate sponsor database. Help with other fundraising activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be organized and able to work through a project with little supervision. Strong communication skills both verbal and written are required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and have some knowledge of Access and Excel.
SKILLS OBTAINED:
Will be exposed to the entire process of sports event management. Will develop skills in working with volunteers, boards of directors and corporate sponsors. Will learn the process of seeking out corporate sponsors, writing formal proposals, drafting contracts and submitting final reports. Will receive an overview of public relations, marketing and operations as they relate to major athletic events.

Health Initiatives Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Education Intern will assist in developing and implementing the statewide Health Initiative Programs. Will work with Lighten Up Wisconsin, Shape Up Wisconsin Kids, and the Fit Kids Challenge. Please visit the Health Education portion of the website to learn more about each of these programs. Will also be a part of state-wide coalitions and will attend meetings and conferences. Will assist in the operation of all programs and events hosted by the WSDC.
REQUIREMENTS:
This person must be organized and able to work through a project with little supervision. Strong communication skills both verbal and written are required. Must be able to multitask. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Must have own transportation.

Event Operations Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Operations Intern will assist in organizing and conducting the Badger State Games summer and winter sports festivals, the Ironman triathlon and other major events hosted by WSDC. Will assist staff, sport commissioners and captains in hosting the events. Duties will include scheduling facilities, distributing equipment, recruiting volunteers, planning special events and receptions, writing and distributing confirmation letters, and coordinating packing of t-shirts and printed materials in athlete bags. Will also receive an overview of marketing, public relations and development as it relates to sports management.
